From the opening to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Mt Chocorua, we see ‘the forest and the trees”, the larger picture of the mountain and the smaller picture of the two individuals rowing in their red canoe. The person with the telescope atop a large guitar reflects a similar search. The picture might serve as an analogy for the therapist , educator and supervisor to see both the small and large picture in the clinical scenario. Where do we start? Where do we go?

Literary Support for Authors

Do you want to publish but you are stuck in your writing? I would love to support you. Many students and professionals feel stuck in their writing. There are many considerations some of which include: the 'voice' of the writing, the architecture of the writing piece , the process (i.e., pace, starts and stops, moving between research, analysis and actual writing), the use of language and comfort with syntax, grammar and choice of words. When English is not your first language, these elements of writing can be even more challenging.

Clinical Assessment, Music Therapy

Includes review of records, two hour long sessions, final report and recommendations.

In the years 1998-2018, I taught graduate students clinical assessment. We covered published assessments in gerontology, child and adult psychiatry, developmental disabilities, autism and , interestingly, couples therapy. I have conducted a great number of assessments with children and adolescents, many of whom received music therapy on their Individual Education Plans as a result of the assessment.

I have published an original assessment tool, MTA-ED, Music Therapy Assessment Tool for Emotionally Disturbed Children (Goodman, 1989; Goodman, 2007) which is discussed on the I.M.T.A.C website (https://www.communication.aau.dk/research/music-therapy-research/imtac).
